End of Year Message 2020

June 03, 2020

May 29, 2020
Dear SCI families:

I am very pleased to announce that their meeting on May 27, 2020, the HSE Board of Education approved the hiring of Mrs. Michelle Bunnell as the next principal at Sand Creek Intermediate. They also named Mr. Brice Willey as the new assistant principal. Mrs. Bunnell has been serving as our assistant principal and Mr. Willey has been Dean of Student Services at HIJH the past two years. I have worked closely with both administrators over many years as Mrs. Bunnell was our intermediate school Teacher Development Specialist and Mr. Willey was a classroom teacher at Fall Creek Intermediate School during my time there as principal. I am very excited about the future for Sand Creek Intermediate School as you are getting two top-notch educators, and more importantly two outstanding people!

On another note, my time at SCI is drawing to a close. During the next two weeks I will continue to work with Mrs. Bunnell and Mr. Willey completing end-of-year items and scheduling for next year. I have thoroughly enjoyed being your principal since last Thanksgiving. The students, staff, and families at SCI have been nothing but outstanding to work with every day! So now, I will try retirement again. I have spent 45 years as an educator and the last 36 in HSE as a principal. It was very special to me to have had the opportunity to serve our HSE families at SCI and I will treasure my memories from here. I do plan to continue to work part-time for the Indiana Association of School Principals where I mentor a cohort group of 15 beginning administrators in the Indy metro area. I hope to spend more time with my family (seven grandkids).

I have asked Mrs. Bunnell and Mr. Willey to write a short note of introduction and those follow this letter.

Best wishes!

Randall J. Schoeff
Interim Principal
Sand Creek Intermediate School
Hamilton Southeastern Schools

Dear SCI families,

It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction as your new principal at Sand Creek Intermediate. I am truly honored to serve our SCI community. As your new leader, one of the most important aspects of my work at SCI will be building strong relationships with students, teachers, and families. Our staff members are committed to providing a safe, structured environment where all feel welcomed and loved. We are a caring community where all students feel valued. Most importantly, our school continues to build an inspiring culture where curiosity, passion, and inquiry enhance learning.

At Sand Creek Intermediate, you will find me in the hallways, our classrooms, and at special activities interacting with our students, staff, and families. My passion has always been and always will be educating the whole child. With that in mind, you can expect that I will work diligently with teachers to make sure our students are exposed to curriculum, instruction, and experiences that are both engaging and personalized to meet the the needs of our students' academic, social, and emotional well being.

I look forward to meeting many of you as we start this new and exciting journey! Together we will stay SCI strong!
Thank you and be well.
Mrs. Michelle Bunnell

Dear SCI Families and Friends,

It is an absolute honor to introduce myself as the new assistant principal at Sand Creek Intermediate School. I am thrilled to serve your community, and I would like to ensure to all that this is a privilege I will cherish. Additionally, I am eager to connect with students, teachers, families, and the community at large. Our connection and trust will be vital to build the environment all students need to thrive. Building your trust is my greatest priority.

I move into this role after serving as the Dean of Students at Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate Junior High for the last two years. I was the Social-Emotional Learning coordinator, Black Student Union Co-Sponsor, Student Advocacy sponsor, and was a staunch advocate on using restorative practices to engage students and teachers in deeper learning. I also serve on the district’s equity team and SEL coalition where we analyze how our systems can best serve all students and families. I am committed to building strong relationships, equitable systems, and identity-affirming environments for all. With that said, I fully understand this is a Socratic, communal process, and again, I look forward to collaborating with the families of SCI to address our needs.

Lastly and most importantly, I am excited for the opportunity in the future to meet your family as we start this exciting journey.

Go Sharks!
All my best,
Brice Willey
