Activities and Clubs

Below are clubs and activities available at Sand Creek Intermediate.

6th Grade Girls Basketball Team

These teams are available to sixth grade students only. These teams will practice several times a week and compete in a 10 game season against other schools in the area. There is a $50 fee for this team.

Cross Country
Experienced and beginner runners improve their cardiovascular system while hanging out with friends and compete against the other intermediate schools in HSE. Cross country practices twice per week with two competitions.

Intramural Basketball

Basketball starts at the beginning of October. Girls have their own league and will be randomly assigned teams. Fifth and sixth grade boys are randomly placed in the three remaining leagues. Sessions run for four days from 2:55-3:55 and 4:00-5:00. Each league will play during one of the four designated time frames. Students will demonstrate responsible personal and social behaviors in a group setting and develop leadership and followership skills.

Intramural Kickball

Kickball usually begins the Monday after Labor Day. Students are randomly placed in four divisions with 4 teams in a division. The teams play a total of four days with the last day being the championship day. The students play after school from 2:55 to 4:00. Students will be instructed on the rules of kickball, and the importance of sportsmanship, team work and cooperation.

Intramural Volleyball

Volleyball usually begins the Monday after Spring Break and runs for two weeks from Monday through Thursday. The fifth grade girls attend 8 sessions running from 2:55-3:50 while the sixth grade girls attend 8 sessions from 4:00-5:00. Students are provided an opportunity for enjoyment, challenge, and self-expression in a group setting.

Math Bowl

Math Bowl is a competitive math and problem solving team that consists of both 5th and 6th graders who score highest during team tryouts in the fall. The team practices once a week after school for approximately three months, and students should expect weekly homework to prepare them for the competition. All of this hard work culminates in a state-wide competition that takes place towards the end of February with the area competition being here at Sand Creek Intermediate.

Orff Ensemble

The ORFF ENSEMBLE at SCI provides a percussion experience with emphasis on mallet playing, drumming, creative movement and speech. The Orff Ensemble will take place during the Fall semester with rehearsals once a week. The group is directed by Mrs. Ewigleben and Mrs. Hicks.

SCI Show Choir

The SCI SHOW CHOIR is an auditioned group that provides choral and movement experience with emphasis on vocal development, score reading, and repertoire building. Students who participate in show choir will also have the opportunity to perform at a variety of events. The SCI show choir is a full year commitment. Students rehearse once per week. The group is directed by Mrs. Ewigleben and Mrs. Hicks.

Spell Bowl

Students tryout for the Spell Bowl team of 10 members during the month of September. Our meetings are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:00-7:35. During our meetings, the students complete activities to practice the words and take a written test each week. The entire Spell Bowl list is comprised of 750 words. Our competition is usually held the third Thursday in November.

Sand Creek Intermediate will be offering intramural track and field for students interested in running beginning in March. Events to be offered will be: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 4x100 m relay, 4x400 m relay, high jump, and long jump. Participants will be engaged in running and working out at each practice, in addition to trying all events, to condition and prepare for the school track meet. Each track participant will be allowed to compete in up to three events in our school meet in April. The top individuals/teams in each event from our school will have the privilege to compete against the Fall Creek Intermediate, Riverside Intermediate, and HSE Intermediate School winners in May.
